This series consists of formerly security classified correspondence, memorandums, telegrams, notes, and reports of the Ambassador and the Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. embassy to Saudi Arabia at Jidda, particularly those of Ambassador Parker T. Hart and Deputy Chief of Mission Nicholas Thatcher. Included is correspondence with such organizations and individuals as the U.S. Department of State, other Foreign Service posts, and other U.S. government agencies; members of the Saudi royal family and government officials; diplomats from other nations; and U.S. military officers relating relating to such subjects as U.S. plans and policies regarding its diplomatic relationship with Saudi Arabia and, to a lesser extent, with other countries in the same region. Included as well are records relating to the activities of U.S. government agencies, businesses, and educational institutions in Saudi Arabia and other countries in the region, including such topics as an American University campus in Beirut, American teachers in Saudi Arabia, Peace Corps operations, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects. This series contains documents in Arabic.

Parker Thompson Hart was born September 28, 1910, in Medford, Massachusetts to William Parker and Ella Louisa (Thompson) Hart. Hart attended Dartmouth College, graduating in 1933, earned his master’s degree in diplomatic history from Harvard in 1935, and a year later received a diploma from L’Institut des Hautes Etudes Internationales in Geneva, Switzerland. He joined the U.S. Foreign Service in 1938 and served in posts in Austria, Brazil, and Saudi Arabia before returning to Department of State...
